Analytics engineering is the discipline dbt created: modeling raw data into tables people can trust, testing them like software, and documenting them so the next person doesn't rebuild them from scratch. At AI companies the twist is that model usage data — tokens, latencies, eval scores — flows through the same warehouse as revenue.

The stack is dbt on Snowflake, BigQuery, or Databricks, with Looker or a semantic layer on top and Git underneath everything. It's a common lane from analyst toward engineering, and honest postings acknowledge that trajectory. Remote is near-universal, and the community is unusually good about making salaries public.
