Real code is part of the job — Python against the product's API, quick RAG pipelines, eval scripts that keep a POC honest. The role rewards people who can hold a room containing a skeptical ML platform team. Compensation usually carries a variable component, and strong SEs are chronically scarce, which makes this a well-paid lane for engineers who like talking.
